Bethune-Cookman Wildcats Face South Carolina State in Road Game

DAYTONA BEACH, FL – Bethune-Cookman University football prepares to renew a historic rivalry this Saturday, facing South Carolina State in a matchup of former Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opponents.This contest marks the 62nd all-time meeting between the two programs, dating back to 1956.

The Wildcats are averaging 339 yards of offense per game through the season’s first two contests. Quarterbacks William Atkins IV (299 yards on 29-48 passing) and Ryan Stubblefield (two touchdown passes) have both seen action.

Defensively, Mike Lunz leads the team with three sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss, and one quarterback hurry.

The quarterback position has seen a split workload, with both Cam Ransom (90 passing yards, 50% completion) and timmy McClain (250 passing yards, 70% completion) making starts. Ransom has proven more effective as a rusher, gaining 35 yards on 4.4 yards per carry,while McClain has -4 rushing yards on 12 attempts.

redshirt Junior Juan Dominguez has been perfect on his first four field goal attempts, with a long of 35 yards – the first Wildcat to achieve this as Xavier McDonald made five consecutive to begin the 2019 season.

Despite the yardage, the B-CU offense has only produced four field goals in two games, continuing a trend of touchdown struggles that began last season. The team is currently averaging 47 penalty yards per game, an advancement from the 64+ yards per game averaged in the previous season. Time of possession has been closely contested, with a difference of only 12 seconds between B-CU and its opponents.

South Carolina State currently leads the all-time series 35-25-1, having won the last three meetings dating back to 2018.
