Best Soundbars for Home Cinema and TV Audio Upgrades
JBL has introduced new iterations of its soundbar lineup, featuring the Bar 1000 Mk2 and the Bar 800 Mk2, which utilize a design centered on removable, wireless rear speakers to achieve surround sound.
JBL Technical Configurations
The JBL Bar 1000 Mk2 is configured as a 7.1.4-channel system. This setup includes wireless surround speakers that, when detached from the main unit, provide two additional upward-firing channels in addition to the upward-firing channels integrated into the soundbar itself. The more affordable JBL Bar 800 Mk2 provides 7.1 surround sound through its detachable rear speakers, though its Dolby Atmos implementation does not include these additional speaker channels.
In a separate high-end offering, the JBL Bar 1300MK2 features rear speakers that function as both Bluetooth and multiroom speakers. While noted for its bass performance and application interface, the model lacks voice control and 4K@120Hz passthrough capabilities.
Comparative Market Analysis
Other manufacturers have deployed different strategies for 3D audio. The Samsung HW-Q995GH is characterized by its immersive 3D sound and streamlined setup, although its display has been described as nearly unusable. Similarly, the Samsung HW-Q935GF offers precise spatial sound and a controlled bass response, but it also lacks 4K 120Hz passthrough.
LG’s DS95TR utilizes “WOW-Technik” to optimize integration with LG televisions, providing a balanced 3D sound profile. However, the model does not include a physical display, and its rear speakers have shown occasional inconsistencies in sonic performance.
Budget and Specialized Hardware
The 2026 market includes a segment of budget-oriented hardware where some models now integrate both Dolby Atmos and DTS audio decoders. Recent market offerings include a 3.1.2-channel soundbar with an external subwoofer priced at 139 Euro, as well as entry-level sound-upgrade options priced at 67 Euro.
Specialized configurations also exist for specific room setups, such as the Teufel CINEBAR 11 Surround, which is designed as a Dolby Atmos 4.1 set.
Current high-end models continue to face technical trade-offs, specifically regarding the integration of 4K@120Hz passthrough and the utility of onboard displays.
