The Safescan MCS software, an accessory for several of the company’s money counting machines, is currently unavailable for purchase, according to a notice on the Safescan website as of February 12, 2026. Customers are invited to submit their email addresses to receive notification when the software is back in stock.
The Safescan MCS software is designed to upload counting results from a range of Safescan devices – including the 6165, 6175, and 6185 money counting scales – to a personal computer. It also supports older models like the 2265, 2465-S, 2665-S, 2685-S, and 2865-S, as well as the 2985-SX and 2995-SX. The software allows users to analyze and save counting results, create user profiles, and export data in CSV or PDF formats. A live count function is available for the 6165, 6175, and 6185 models, displaying results directly on a PC screen. The software also facilitates the uploading of serial numbers for banknotes when used with the 2985-SX/2995-SX machines.
The current stock shortage comes as businesses increasingly rely on point-of-sale (POS) systems and cash register software to manage transactions and inventory. A report published in November 2025 highlighted a growing market for free cash register software, particularly among modest retailers and restaurants (OMR). While free options offer basic functionality, they often lack the comprehensive features and support found in paid systems.
The demand for efficient cash handling solutions is also driven by the evolving retail landscape, where customers expect multiple payment options and seamless transactions. Contidata’s MAXXcash POS systems, for example, offer a range of solutions including self-service kiosks, tablet-based systems, and traditional face-to-face cash registers (Contidata). These systems are designed to integrate with existing software and hardware, providing businesses with scalable and adaptable solutions.
Alternatives to Safescan’s software include cloud-based POS systems like ready2order, which offers a tablet-based cash register solution (ready2order). These systems often provide features such as inventory management, customer relationship management, and reporting capabilities. However, the specific compatibility of these systems with existing money counting hardware varies.
Safescan did not respond to requests for comment regarding the reasons for the software’s unavailability or a projected restock date. The company’s website only offers the option to be notified when the product is available again.
