Ramirez Sardines Crowned Champion in Paladar‘s Blind Taste Test
SÃO PAULO – Ramirez, a Portuguese brand, has been named the winner of Paladar’s recent canned sardine taste test, earning top marks for its delicate flavor, balanced salt content, and impeccable texture. The results, published today, offer consumers a guide to quality amidst a crowded supermarket landscape.
Eight brands of canned sardines were evaluated by a panel of judges, revealing a clear preference for Ramirez’s product. Judges noted the sardines’ shiny appearance and intact meat as key factors in securing first place.Coqueiro took second, recognized for its firm texture and neutral aroma, while Pescador rounded out the top three, praised for its good salt balance and “integer and shining” visual appeal.
According to chefs involved in the evaluation, the quality of canned sardines hinges on the raw material and precise cooking. “The fish needs to be canned at the peak of its fat content to present the best flavor,” explains chef Vitor Sobral. While olive oil-preserved sardines are considered more refined, vegetable oil versions remain the most accessible and popular choice for Brazilian consumers.
The versatile and affordable canned sardine continues to be a staple in Brazilian cuisine, offering a convenient and flavorful option for a wide range of meals.
