Thousands Plunged into Darkness as Power Fails in bergen’s Laksevåg
Bergen, Norway – A meaningful power outage has left over 3,000 residents in Bergen’s Laksevåg district without electricity, disrupting daily life and coinciding with a crucial Champions League qualifying match for the local football club, Brann.
The outage, which began around 10:35 PM local time, has impacted 3,770 customers, according to details from BKK, the company responsible for the power grid serving approximately 270,000 customers. Daniel Liljegren Eriksen, a press contact for BKK, confirmed that the issue stems from a failure at a main station and that installers are actively working on troubleshooting the problem throughout Wednesday night.
The timing of the blackout proved particularly unfortunate for many in the area, as it occurred midway through Brann’s Champions League qualifying match against RB Salzburg. “It was a little unlucky,” Eriksen commented, acknowledging the disruption to the game. “I had the match on the screen here myself. It was a shame, but we hope it was short-lived.”
As of the latest reports, the power failure in Gravdal, a part of the affected district, was still ongoing, with no customers having had their power restored.
Understanding Power Outages: Power outages, also known as blackouts or load shedding, can occur for a variety of reasons. these include equipment failures, severe weather conditions impacting power lines, accidents, or planned maintenance by utility companies. the duration of an outage can vary substantially depending on the cause and the complexity of the repairs required. Utility companies typically work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible, often prioritizing critical infrastructure and then addressing widespread outages based on the number of customers affected and the severity of the damage.
