Carlos Balor, the newly appointed mayor of Berazategui, Argentina, visited the Corazones Alegres Retirement Center this week, delivering a Takkyu Volley table requested by the center’s residents. The donation fulfills a commitment originally made by his predecessor, Juan José Mussi, who died on November 25, 2025, after more than two decades leading the municipality.
“This table was a request that the Center had made to Dr. Juan José Mussi,” Balor explained during the visit, according to a statement released by the municipality. “Today we deliver it because we continue with his legacy. We are going to be next to the Retirement Centers like Mussi did, so know that you are counting on us.”
Takkyu Volley, a modified version of table tennis, is practiced at the Corazones Alegres center as a therapeutic and sporting activity. Originally developed in Japan for children with muscular dystrophy, the adapted sport allows for group play and emphasizes accessibility.
Delia Ramona Álvarez, president of Corazones Alegres, expressed gratitude for the donation and welcomed Balor’s visit. “We have received the Mayor with great joy and a mate. He will always be welcome in this institution,” Álvarez said. “We are very grateful for this fantastic gift that is the table, which means great happiness for us.”
Balor assumed the mayorship following Mussi’s death, in accordance with the Ley Orgánica de las Municipalidades of Buenos Aires province. As the first candidate on the list of councilors elected alongside Mussi in 2023, Balor will serve until the next municipal elections in 2027. He previously served as the Secretary of Public Works for the municipality.
The succession plan, outlined in Article 123 of the 1993 law 5109, ensures a smooth transition of power in the event of a mayor’s death, resignation, or removal from office. Carlos “Turco” Balor’s appointment continues a political tradition within Berazategui, where Mussi maintained a strong influence for decades and where his son, Patricio Mussi, previously served as mayor.
Balor was accompanied by members of the municipal Cabinet during his visit to the retirement center, signaling a continuation of municipal engagement with local institutions.
