Broadcaster Beau van Erven Dorens is facing criticism following Wednesday evening’s interview with Lili Genee, wife of television personality Wilfred Genee, during an appearance on RTL Tonight to promote her new book.
The interview has sparked debate over its conduct, with commentators alleging van Erven Dorens repeatedly interrupted Genee and failed to provide her adequate prospect to discuss her work. The incident highlights ongoing tensions between van Erven Dorens and Genee, and raises questions about professional conduct during interviews, particularly when personal relationships are involved. The fallout could impact van Erven Dorens’ reputation and future interview strategies.
Johan Derksen, a panelist on the show Today Inside, initiated the discussion, stating, “I was looking at Beau and I see your wife sitting there with that book.” Derksen criticized van Erven Dorens’ demeanor, claiming he “is always slouching and he thinks: when those people talk, I don’t get involved, because he doesn’t care. And if your wife said something, instantly: bep-bep-bep in between.”
According to Derksen, Genee was unable to complete sentences or adequately explain the book’s content or where to purchase it – Lili.nl – because van Erven Dorens was ”just having fun all evening.” René van der Gijp, also on the Today Inside panel, questioned the motivation behind van Erven Dorens’ behavior, to which Derksen responded, “Well, as he hates Wilfred of course!”
wilfred Genee acknowledged a potential personal dynamic, stating, “There is indeed a chance, yes, haha! Do you think it played a role or not? We are good, aren’t we, Beau and I?” Though, Derksen maintained that professional courtesy should prevail, asserting, “Everyone can hate us…but if a woman of yours is there, you have to be able to see it in a businesslike manner. She has nothing to do with it. indecent.”
Genee expressed his disappointment, suggesting van Erven Dorens should have directly addressed him if he had concerns. “I’m sometimes in between, so I don’t have much right to speak, but I noticed it last night, but then he better tackle me. Then he has to invite me once and then he has to play ball with me. That would be better.”
Table guest Goedele Liekens inquired whether Genee’s wife was bothered by the interview. Genee responded, “ehh, well, she found it difficult to tell her story. I had that impression indeed.” Derksen concluded, “she just wasn’t given the space to tell it.”
