Bears Donate Turf & $50K to Rockford Sports Complex

Chicago bears Invest⁣ in Rockford youth Sports with turf Donation and $50,000 Grant

ROCKFORD, IL – In a notable boost for ‍youth athletics, the Chicago Bears have donated artificial⁤ turf and a $50,000 grant to the Rockford ⁣Park​ District, officials announced Saturday. the contribution will​ directly benefit the newly opened Clarence Hicks Memorial Sports Complex and​ support the growing popularity of girls flag football and other ⁤youth sports programs in the⁢ region.

The donated⁢ turf, approximately 30 yards by 30 yards, features the bears’⁤ iconic “C” logo ⁤and‌ was previously used for six years in the indoor practice facility at the Walter ⁤Payton Center at Halas ‍Hall. It will now serve as a dedicated ⁢warmup zone within the state-of-the-art complex.

The‍ Clarence Hicks Memorial Sports Complex, unveiled this past Saturday, represents a $7.5 million investment in the Rockford community. The facility boasts ⁣an⁢ eight-lane ‌running track, a professional-grade turf field, bleacher seating for over 1,000 spectators,‍ and modern amenities including LED field lights⁤ and a press box. Additional features​ include facilities ​for field ​events like discus and javelin,‌ new scoreboards, perimeter fencing, and a 64-stall parking lot equipped with​ solar lighting.

Beyond the turf​ itself, the Rockford Park District is ⁣incorporating educational‌ elements to honor the legacy of Hall of Fame running ​back ⁤Walter Payton.On-site signage ‌will detail Payton’s career and the history of the turf, ⁣as well‍ as highlight the long-standing partnership between the Rockford Park ⁣District and the Chicago Bears organization. This initiative aims‌ to inspire ⁤young ​athletes and connect them with the rich history of the team.
