Bayreuth Museum Events: Art & Democracy Tours – Feb 2026

February 23, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Bayreuth residents have two opportunities to engage with history and remembrance this Wednesday, February 25th, with events hosted by the Historisches Museum Bayreuth and the Wilhelm-Leuschner-Gedenkstätte. The museum will host a collaborative event with the KirchplatzTreff, while the Gedenkstätte will offer a public tour focused on the life of Wilhelm Leuschner.

At 2:30 PM, the Historisches Museum Bayreuth will present “Kunststück,” a 90-minute event in cooperation with the KirchplatzTreff. Participants will examine a selected object from the museum’s collection, exploring its history and significance in an interactive discussion. The event costs €3 per person, and registration is required by February 24th via phone at 0921/764010 or email at [email protected]. The Historisches Museum Bayreuth’s collection documents the cultural and artistic history of Bayreuth and the surrounding region from the Middle Ages to the present day, according to its website.

Later that evening, at 5:30 PM, the Wilhelm-Leuschner-Gedenkstätte will host a public tour titled “Ein Leben für die Demokratie” (A Life for Democracy). The tour will explore the life of Wilhelm Leuschner, a Bayreuth native who pursued a political career in Darmstadt and actively opposed the rise of Nazism. The tour will examine Leuschner’s connections to the resistance movement and his commitment to democratic principles. The tour lasts approximately 60 minutes and costs €1 per person. No registration is required.

The KirchplatzTreff, a community center operated by the Gesamtkirchengemeinde Bayreuth, is co-hosting the afternoon event at the museum. The KirchplatzTreff offers a variety of programs, including fitness classes and digital literacy workshops, and is currently undergoing renovations, with events temporarily relocated to the Evangelisches Zentrum on Richard-Wagner-Straße 24 starting in April.
