Bayonetta 3 Sequel & Metal Gear Rising Remake Rumors Surface
Rumors circulating from a Chinese gaming forum suggest PlatinumGames is developing a new Bayonetta title alongside remakes of both the original Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The information, initially reported on Reddit, indicates a shift for the studio towards the Unreal Engine 5 for all three projects.
The new Bayonetta game is reportedly budgeted to match the scale of Final Fantasy XVI, suggesting a significant investment in the title. Development is said to have been underway for approximately two years, with the research and prototyping phases completed. A potential announcement could occur by the end of 2026, with a tentative release window in early 2028, contingent on internal approval from Tencent.
According to the leaked information, the new Bayonetta installment aims for broader accessibility in its combat system, potentially toning down combo difficulty while expanding overall gameplay content. Specific changes reportedly include a directly triggered “Wicked Weaves” mechanic utilizing a resource gauge, a new blocking and counterattack system incorporating a shield, and unchanged dodging mechanics. The game’s budget is estimated at around $60 million.
The remakes of Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance are planned for a 2027 launch. The Bayonetta remake is expected to rebuild the 2009 title with Unreal Engine 5 graphics and refined level design, mirroring Konami’s approach with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
While the source of these claims has previously provided accurate information regarding Ninja Gaiden 4, the rumors remain unconfirmed. Wccftech assessed the rumor as “Plausible” with a 45% rating, citing the source’s past accuracy but similarly acknowledging the translation layer involved in the information’s dissemination. GameHaunt also reported on the leaks, noting the shift to Unreal Engine 5 represents a departure from PlatinumGames’ in-house technology.
As of February 28, 2026, PlatinumGames has not issued an official statement regarding these projects. Tencent has not publicly commented on the potential approval of the new Bayonetta game.
