Baton Rouge House Fire Caused by Electrical Malfunction: BRFD
A house fire in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Saturday evening was attributed to an electrical malfunction, according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department (BRFD). Crews responded to the incident at a single-family home in the 2200 block of Idle Oaks Drive at approximately 5:55 p.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters found two residents already evacuated and smoke emanating from the front door. The fire was localized to the garage, and crews were able to contain it to that area, preventing further spread throughout the residence. The home sustained light smoke damage, officials reported.
The occupants of the home reported hearing a loud “pop” and experiencing a subsequent power outage immediately before discovering the fire, according to the BRFD. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
The BRFD estimates the damage to the structure at approximately $50,000. The department, established in 1825 as the Baton Rouge Bucket Company, currently holds a “Class 1” rating – a distinction it has maintained for over 40 years – signifying a high level of fire protection service.
The incident occurred off Perkins Road, near the intersection of Idle Oaks Drive, according to reports. The cause of the fire was officially determined to be an electrical malfunction.
