Barcelona Transfer Target: Alessandro Bastoni Deal eyed for 2024/25?

March 24, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Barcelona have made Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni their top priority in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to club sources. The La Liga side are seeking to bolster their central defense ahead of the 2026/27 season and view the 26-year-old Italian international as the ideal partner for emerging talent Pau Cubarsí.

Bastoni has established himself as a key figure in Serie A, known for his composure on the ball and ability to contribute to build-up play. Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, and head coach Hansi Flick are both reportedly in agreement that a left-footed centre-back is crucial to their defensive plans, and Bastoni fits that profile perfectly. Sources indicate that Barcelona believe Bastoni would be receptive to a move to the Camp Nou.

However, securing Bastoni’s signature will not be straightforward. Inter Milan are aware of Barcelona’s interest and, while previously reluctant to sell, are now “seriously considering” a sale to raise funds for their own summer recruitment drive, according to reports in Italy. Inter had initially considered selling Marcus Thuram, but Bastoni has emerged as a potential alternative to generate significant revenue.

The Italian club currently value Bastoni in the region of €70 million, though Barcelona are hoping to negotiate a lower fee, potentially through a player-plus-cash deal. Inter are reportedly open to offers around €50 million, with additional bonuses. Bastoni’s contract with Inter runs until 2028, giving the Nerazzurri a strong negotiating position.

Inter are already identifying potential replacements for Bastoni should he depart, with Napoli’s Alessandro Buongiorno, Roma’s Evan Ndicka, and Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi all being considered as candidates. Barcelona are planning to intensify their efforts to sign Bastoni in April, with the intention of convincing the player to push for a move to Catalonia.

Bastoni’s recent form has come under scrutiny in Italy, following a controversial red card decision in the Derby d’Italia, but his overall quality and experience remain highly valued. His net salary is reported to be over €5 million, adding to the financial complexities of a potential transfer.
