Barcelona Eye Julian Alvarez: Ferran Torres Could Be Key to Deal
Barcelona are prepared to offer Ferran Torres as part of a deal to sign Atlético Madrid forward Julian Álvarez this summer, according to reports. The Catalan club are increasingly focused on bolstering their attacking options and see Álvarez as a key target, but are constrained by financial limitations.
Journalist Sique Rodriguez has reported that Barcelona are actively exploring ways to structure a deal that will be financially viable, with Torres emerging as a potential makeweight in negotiations with Atlético. The move comes as Torres’ form has sharply declined since the start of the year, raising questions about his future at the club.
Torres enjoyed a promising start to the season, scoring 13 goals in the first half of the campaign. However, he has failed to find the net since January 31 against Elche, a drought of almost two months. This dip in form coincides with Barcelona’s efforts to reshape their attack, intensifying speculation surrounding Torres’ position within the squad.
Barcelona have previously considered other players as potential trade assets, including defender Ronald Araujo, according to earlier reports. The willingness to include a player in the deal reflects the club’s desire to reduce the financial burden of a potential transfer for Álvarez.
Barcelona are reportedly confident they can secure Álvarez for a fee of no more than €100 million by including a player in the transaction. Atlético Madrid, however, have indicated they are reluctant to sell Álvarez to Barcelona, according to MSN. The Spanish outlet reported that Atlético will refuse to sell to their rivals, even with a substantial offer.
Barcelona are similarly reportedly considering alternative forward targets. Sports Illustrated reported that the club is identifying potential replacements for Álvarez, suggesting they are prepared to explore other options if a deal with Atlético cannot be reached. The club is looking at other options in case Atlético Madrid hold firm in their refusal to sell Álvarez.
The situation remains fluid, with negotiations expected to intensify in the coming months. The outcome will likely depend on Barcelona’s ability to convince Atlético that a deal involving Torres, or another player, is mutually beneficial.
