Woman Sheds Over 55kg after bali Trip Shame, Finds Confidence in Goa Yoga Retreat

LONDON – Annalisa Toccara, ‍42, underwent a dramatic transformation after an embarrassing holiday ‌experience in Bali prompted her to lose over 55kg (121lbs). Once self-conscious ‍and limited ⁣in her physical activity, Toccara recently‌ completed yoga poses with ease during a retreat in Goa, India, marking a‌ significant milestone in her journey to health and self-acceptance.

The turning point came during a trip to Bali in 2023, where Toccara felt acutely aware of her size and struggled with basic activities. “I‍ couldn’t even⁣ get my seatbelt down‍ on the plane,” she ‌recalled. ⁤”I‌ just sat and cried.⁢ I couldn’t wait to get back home.” This experience⁢ fueled her determination to make a lasting change.

After consulting with her doctor, Toccara opted for a gastric sleeve operation in Turkey in October ⁣2024, a procedure that removed a large portion of‌ her stomach. “Within hours I was in ⁢the operating theater, and it went well,” she said. “Within days I was ⁢walking around and then back on the plane home. it ‌was a total change from ⁢my previous diet.”

Prior to surgery, Toccara’s ⁤diet consisted largely⁢ of McDonald’s breakfasts,⁤ pizza, chocolate, and crisps. Following the procedure, she transitioned to a liquid diet, then pureed foods, and eventually small portions of ‌solid meals. This led to a steady weight loss, bringing her down⁢ to‌ 101kg (222lbs) and reducing her dress size from 32‌ to‍ 16.

Her progress culminated in a yoga retreat in Goa in January,⁢ where she discovered a newfound physical flexibility. “I could even get into the lotus position and the downward dog,” Toccara shared. Beyond the physical benefits, she reports a ⁤significant boost ⁤in confidence, social freedom, and success in dating. “I’m ⁤no longer anxious or embarrassed. I love socialising, walking,‌ and being myself,” she said.
