Manama – Bahrain’s Deputy Prime Minister, Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, officially opened the first phase of the Safra Walkway on Wednesday, as part of Bahrain Sports Day celebrations organized by the Municipality Affairs and Agricultural Ministry. The inauguration saw Sheikh Khalid, alongside residents of the Southern Governorate, welcome attendees to the new pedestrian path.

Present at the opening were Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Southern Governor Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Khalifa, senior officials, heads of Capital Municipalities and local councils, and members of the Southern Municipal Council, according to Bahrain News Agency.

Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah stated that the provision of public facilities to enhance community health and quality of life is a key component of Bahrain’s development goals. He emphasized that the expansion and development of such facilities, spearheaded by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, reflects the government’s focus on fostering a healthy and productive society by enabling participation in physical activity as a regular part of daily life.

The Deputy Prime Minister also commended the increasing success of Bahrain Sports Day, acknowledging the role of Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, and Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, in supporting sports and youth initiatives.

Sheikh Khalid expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture for its annual commitment to implementing and inaugurating walking tracks in conjunction with Bahrain Sports Day. He noted that this approach reflects national efforts to provide safe and healthy spaces for residents across various governorates, enabling them to continue sports training throughout the year and contribute to achieving the nation’s objectives and fulfilling citizens’ aspirations.

The Safra Walkway, located along Sheikh Salman Highway near Awali Roundabout, spans 1.2 kilometers in length and 6 meters in width. The walkway incorporates a dedicated area for sports activities equipped with warm-up apparatus. Its design prioritizes ease of movement and integration for individuals with determination, ensuring accessibility for all users. Landscaping work, utilizing shade trees and date palms, was also completed as part of the project.
