Bagnac-sur-Célé Residents Rally to Support local Man Battling Charcot’s Disease
Bagnac-sur-Célé, France – November 22, 2024 – the Bagnac Blood Donation Association is spearheading a fundraising effort to support Cédric Mounal, a 45-year-old resident recently diagnosed with Charcot’s disease, also known as ALS. A donation drive will be held on Thursday, November 27th, at the village hall, offering supporters a bracelet key ring in exchange for a €5 contribution directly benefiting research into the debilitating condition.
Charcot’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder affecting motor neurons, leading to muscle weakness, paralysis, and ultimately, death. The initiative aims to bolster ongoing research seeking to slow the disease’s progression and, ultimately, find a cure. Mounal, a former rugby player, embodies resilience in the face of his diagnosis, choosing proactive engagement – supporting research, raising awareness - over succumbing to despair. “My name is Cédric Mounal, I am 45 years old. Rugby built me, the collective has always supported me. In 2022, Charcot’s disease entered my life. Rather than suffer, I chose to act: support research, raise awareness, and keep intact my passion for life, music, cinema and the oval ball.As a fight is always won as a team,” he stated.
Damien Destruel, president of the bagnac Blood Donation Association, is leading the charge alongside his wife, urging community members to learn more about ALS and contribute to the cause. The association hopes to not only raise funds but also increase understanding of the disease and its impact.
