Badminton Shields: Why You Need Protection When Playing

February 16, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Nominations for the 2026 Queensland Open Badminton team closed today, February 16th, according to the Queensland Badminton Association. The deadline was widely publicized, with reminders issued as recently as January 18th, 2026, via the association’s Facebook page.

The nominations are for participation in the Ede Clendinnen Shield, a national team event governed by bylaws established by Badminton Australia. The Queensland Open will serve as a qualifying event for the shield competition, which is scheduled to take place May 9th-16th, 2026, at the KG Badminton facility.

The Queensland Badminton Association’s website confirms that all nominations had to be received by today’s date. Details regarding the Ede Clendinnen Shield and its governing rules are available through Badminton Australia.

The Royal Belfast Academical Institution is also holding a badminton competition, alongside table tennis and tennis events, as part of its February calendar, though this is unrelated to the Queensland Open.
