Bad Bunny to Headline Super Bowl LVIII Half-Time Show
LAS VEGAS – Global music superstar Bad Bunny will headline the Super Bowl LVIII half-time show, the NFL announced Monday. The performance, set to take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, california, on February 11, 2024, will mark a historic moment as the frist time a solo Latin artist has taken the stage during the Super Bowl’s biggest night.
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, joins a prestigious lineup of past performers including Kendrick Lamar, Usher, Rihanna, and The Weeknd. Lamar’s performance at this year’s super Bowl was watched by a record 127 million viewers in the US.
“Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el halftime show del Super Bowl,” Bad Bunny stated in Spanish, which translates to: “Go tell your grandma we’re going to be the Super Bowl half-time show.”
Jay-Z,whose Roc Nation company selects and produces the half-time show,praised Bad Bunny’s impact,stating,”What Bad Bunny has done and continues to do for Puerto Rico is truly inspiring. We are honoured to have him on the world’s biggest stage.”
The 31-year-old artist has achieved unprecedented success, with his 2022 album Un Verano Sin Ti (A Summer Without You) becoming the first all-Spanish language album to reach number one in the US. Last year, he was the third most-streamed artist globally, trailing only taylor Swift and The Weeknd. He recently released his latest album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos (I should Have Taken More Photos), earlier in 2023.
Bad Bunny’s accolades include three Grammy Awards and he is currently the leading nominee for this year’s latin Grammy Awards. he recently concluded a residency in Puerto Rico, attracting over 500,000 fans. His upcoming tour begins in the Dominican Republic in November, extending across Central and South America, Australia, Japan, and Europe, with two dates scheduled for Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London next summer.
The artist previously explained his limited US tour dates, stating, “There were many reasons why I didn’t show up in the US, and none of them were out of hate… All of [the shows] have been successful. But there was the issue of… ICE could be outside [my concerts]. And it’s somthing that we were talking about and very concerned about.”
Beyond music, Bad Bunny has also ventured into acting, appearing in films such as Bullet Train and Happy Gilmore 2, and is set to host Saturday Night Live for a second time next month.
