Popfolk Star Azis hints at Political Future
SOFIA, Bulgaria – Azis, Bulgaria’s widely popular “king of Popfolk,” has revealed his intention to eventually enter politics, marking a surprising potential career shift for the singer.
Speaking on a recent podcast, Azis stated, “I have a lot of time before I go into politics, but it will certainly be. At this stage it will not be, but the natural finale of my career will be like that. I cannot always sing and dance on the scenes.”
The singer, whose real name is Vasko, disclosed he has already been approached wiht offers to become a Member of Parliament. He jokingly added he tells politicians, “I am sung before you get me into this whirlpool.”
Azis believes his popularity and influence, particularly within the Roma community, could be leveraged for positive change. “They are not afraid of me,on the contrary – there are those who think I would help them. This is because of the ethnicity I represent and my impact on people. If through me gypsy children go to school and integration becomes a reality, what is wrong?” he explained.
He even proposed a potential role within the government, suggesting, “I can be the Minister of Integration. How is there a Ministry of Happiness abroad and not here for minorities?”
Acknowledging potential criticism,Azis stated he anticipates being “underestimated and ridiculed,” but remains undeterred. “it’s not new to me. But soon they will understand my power because my electorate is huge,” said the singer, often referred to as the “Roma Nightingale” by his fans.
