Avengers Doomsday, Gundam & More: Movie News Roundup – March 2026
James Marsden is experiencing a costume upgrade for his return as Cyclops in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. The actor, who first portrayed Scott Summers in 2000’s X-Men, described the difference between the original black leather suits and the latest, comic-accurate design as a significant improvement.
Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Marsden explained, “The first movies, we were just in black leather that was extremely tight… But then to put this on, felt very cool, felt proud. And then the visor goes on and I move, ‘I can’t see again.’” The actor previously played Cyclops in X2 (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), and made a cameo appearance in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014).
Marsden’s reprisal of the role comes as Marvel Studios integrates the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Disney’s 2019 acquisition of 21st Century Fox. He will be joined by fellow original X-Men cast members Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique. The decision to bring back Marsden, rather than Tye Sheridan who played Cyclops in more recent 20th Century Fox films, aligns with Marvel’s preference for the original film actors, a trend previously seen with Stewart and Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine.
In other film news, Michael Mando, currently playing Scorpion in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, has joined the cast of Netflix and Legendary’s live-action Gundam movie, alongside Noah Centineo, Sydney Sweeney, and Jason Clarke. Details of Mando’s role remain undisclosed. The film is based on the long-running Japanese mecha franchise that debuted in 1979 and is being directed by Jim Mickle, who also wrote the script.
Alan Ritchson, known for his roles in “Reacher” and “War Machine,” will not face criminal charges related to a recent altercation in Tennessee. Police detectives determined that Ritchson acted in self-defense during the incident.
Meanwhile, Johnny Depp has reportedly been filming a Netflix horror film in Maidstone, UK, in recent days, according to local reports. Details about the project are currently scarce, following Depp’s recent operate on “Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol” for Paramount Pictures.
