Erika Kirk’s View on Birth Rates & Women’s Choices

by Emma Walker – News Editor December 4, 2025

Kirk Comments on Marriage, ⁤Family Spark‍ Debate Amid Declining ⁣Birth Rates

New York, NY – Remarks made ‍by Erika ⁤Kirk, responding to⁢ questions about New York City Mayor-elect⁤ Mamdani‌ in The New York Times, ‍have ignited‌ a discussion about the factors contributing to declining birth rates ⁢and the⁢ challenges facing⁣ young women considering marriage‌ and parenthood.⁤ Kirk suggested ‍that⁣ young women relocating to cities like New ⁤York ⁤should not rely⁢ on government support‌ as a replacement for traditional family structures.

“What I don’t want ⁤to have happen is women,⁣ young women in⁢ the city, look to the government as⁣ a solution to put⁢ off having a family or a ‌marriage, as you’re relying on the government to support⁣ you rather of being united with a husband…” Kirk stated in the interview. The comments drew swift reaction,⁤ especially from Reshma Saujani, who argued that the declining birth rate isn’t due to government ⁤generosity, but rather economic ‌realities.

Saujani countered⁢ that women are increasingly delaying or forgoing marriage and parenthood due to financial constraints. She asserts that for many women, marriage often translates ‌to increased workload, reduced earnings, and a⁢ lack of adequate support. “women‌ aren’t rejecting marriage or motherhood because they don’t value family ‍- they’re ‍doing the math,” ‌Saujani explained.

The debate highlights a growing concern about the economic barriers to ‌starting a ⁣family, with advocates calling for policies like paid‍ leave and⁢ affordable childcare to‍ address the issue. Saujani⁢ emphasizes that until these systemic challenges are resolved, discussions about personal choices distract from the ‌core problem: the need for substantial support for‍ families.

Title: Navy Admiral Details No “Kill All” Order Amidst Capitol Hill Scrutiny

by Emma Walker – News Editor December 4, 2025

Lawmakers Demand Accountability After Navy Strike on boat Strike Survivors

WASHINGTON (AP) – A Navy admiral briefed lawmakers Tuesday regarding a recent military operation that ⁤resulted in a follow-up strike on a vessel carrying survivors of an initial attack, ⁣sparking outrage and calls for accountability. The briefing came as lawmakers seek detailed information about the strikes, which have killed more than 80 people since September, and the legal justification for targeting what the Trump governance deems “narco-terrorist” drug cartels.

The central concern revolves around reports that military officials were aware of ⁤survivors in the water following the first strike but ⁤authorized a second‌ attack to ensure the vessel sank.lawmakers are pressing for clarity on who ordered the ‍follow-on ‌strike and whether Sean ‌Hegseth,a conservative media personality who has been closely involved with the administration’s efforts against the cartels, played a role.

Sen. Jack Reed, the ⁣top Democrat on the Armed Services Committee, and Sen. Roger ‍Wicker have formally requested the executive orders authorizing the operations, complete videos of the strikes, the intelligence used to identify the vessels as targets, the rules of engagement, and the criteria used to distinguish between combatants ‌and civilians.

“Anybody in the chain of command that was ‌responsible for it, that had vision of it, ⁤needs to be held accountable,” a source familiar with the matter stated, reflecting ‍the expectation of a reckoning if survivors were deliberately targeted.

Some Republican lawmakers have defended Hegseth and the broader military campaign. Sen.markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., argued the administration was justified in using war powers against drug ⁤cartels, stating, “I see nothing wrong with what took place.”

However, critics like Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., argue the questions ‍about the⁣ legality of targeting ‌survivors are a direct consequence of a military action built ‍on shaky legal ground. ‍blumenthal asserted Hegseth bears responsibility, even without a direct order from the defense secretary. ”He may not have been in the room, but he was ⁢in the loop,” Blumenthal said. “And it was his order that was instrumental and foreseeably resulted in the deaths of these survivors.”

The examination’s scope remains unclear, and obtaining further documentation will likely depend on cooperation from republican lawmakers.

GAO Investigates FHFA Director Bill Pulte Over Mortgage Fraud Referrals

by Emma Walker – News Editor December 4, 2025
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

WASHINGTON -‍ The Government accountability Office ⁢(GAO) has launched an ⁢investigation into Federal Housing Finance⁤ Agency (FHFA) Director⁣ Bill Pulte, a ⁤close‍ ally ⁤of former ‍President Donald⁣ Trump, NBC News reported Monday. The ⁤probe will examine Pulte’s actions involving referrals he made to ‍Attorney ⁤General Pam Bondi ⁢regarding Federal⁤ Reserve Governor Lisa ‍Cook.

The GAO’s investigation follows scrutiny of mortgage documents Pulte provided that ‌led to the referral. Pulte has‍ declined⁢ to reveal⁣ the source of the documents, ⁣stating in a September interview on‌ CNBC, “I’m not going to explain our⁤ sources and methods. We make referrals almost every ‌day. Lisa ⁢Cook happened to be one ⁤of them.”

Since becoming FHFA director, Pulte⁣ has frequently criticized Democratic elected officials targeted by Trump, and also Governor Jerome Powell, chair of the Federal Reserve. Trump has repeatedly called ⁢for Powell to ⁢lower interest rates. Cook‌ was nominated to the‌ federal Reserve‌ board⁤ by President Joe Biden.

In August, Trump attempted to fire Cook, citing Pulte’s referral⁢ in ⁤a letter posted⁤ to Truth Social. The case ⁢is scheduled to be heard by the‍ Supreme court⁤ in January.

The attention ⁣Pulte has⁣ drawn has reportedly‍ caused friction within ⁣the Trump administration. Treasury Secretary⁤ Scott Bessent reportedly threatened Pulte during a ⁢White House dinner in September, a ⁤report Bessent alluded to in a CNBC interview, stating, “Treasury secretaries dating back to ‌Alexander Hamilton have a history ⁢of dueling.”

A GAO spokesperson told NBC News that determining the scope and methodology of⁣ the investigation “can take a few months,” and⁢ a completion date has not yet been established. The FHFA has not⁤ responded to requests⁢ for comment.

Title: Chicago Schools Find New Buyers: Housing and Community Centers Planned

Chicago Public Schools poised to sell three long-vacant school buildings to developers proposing housing, affordable senior options

Chicago could see ‍three shuttered school⁤ buildings repurposed as housing after recent bids and community engagement, signaling a potential shift for⁢ vacant CPS properties. The Chicago Board of Education is considering‌ proposals for the former Bontemps Elementary in ⁣Englewood, the Henson Elementary, and a third unnamed school, perhaps offering ⁤a mix of single-family homes, affordable apartments, ⁣and senior housing.

The moves come as CPS continues to grapple with declining enrollment‌ and a portfolio of underutilized buildings. At least one other former CPS school,King Elementary in Tri-Taylor,has already⁤ been successfully redeveloped into 30 single-family homes, completed ⁤in ⁢2020 after being purchased by a developer in 2017.

For the Bontemps school, Devereaux Peters, a former WNBA player and now affordable housing developer, has⁢ offered $75,000 to demolish the building and construct two new buildings: one ⁣with 72 units featuring‍ amenities like a fitness center and coworking space, and another with⁤ 60 units specifically designed for seniors looking to downsize within the community. The current structure, according ‍to CPS officials, lacks working plumbing, electric, and mechanical systems. A community meeting was ⁢held in October, and local Alderman Stephanie⁣ Coleman supports the project.

Past attempts to sell Bontemps have stalled. In 2017,the school board approved a ⁢$50,000 bid from IFF,a Chicago-based nonprofit lender and developer, but the sale never ⁣finalized.

Another proposal involves Henson⁣ Elementary, where MKB offered $25,000,‌ but was outbid ⁤by Calling Water⁢ LLC at $30,000. The plan from Calling Water⁣ LLC had the support⁤ of local Alderperson Monique Scott, despite contention during a community ⁣meeting.

in 2018, the Board of Education⁣ approved a $55,000 bid from the Single Room ⁢Housing Assistance Corporation to convert⁤ Henson into 80 mini-studio apartments for low-income individuals, including veterans,‌ single mothers, and people with disabilities, but that sale⁣ also failed to close.

Instagram and Facebook Begin Account Closures Ahead of Australia‘s⁣ Under-16 Social Media‍ Ban

Sydney, Australia – Instagram and Facebook have begun ⁣proactively shutting down accounts believed to belong ‍to ⁢users under the age of 16,⁣ as Australia‍ prepares to enforce a new law restricting social media access for younger demographics. The⁤ move comes days before the December 10th‍ deadline ‌for platforms to ‌comply with the new regulations, which‍ aim ⁤to protect‌ children from online harms.

The Australian government’s new‌ rules, overseen by the eSafety commissioner, ⁣require ⁢social media platforms to verify the age of users and obtain parental ⁤consent for those under ⁣16. Platforms failing to adhere to the regulations face potential fines of ⁣$49.5‍ million. The ban impacts a wide range of popular services, including Facebook,Instagram,Threads,TikTok,Snapchat,X,Reddit,Kick,Twitch, and ‌YouTube.

eSafety commissioner Julie‍ Inman⁢ Grant has indicated ⁢a “graduated risk and outcomes-based approach” to enforcement, prioritizing platforms with⁤ the largest underage user bases.⁣ While most companies – including ⁣Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, ‌Snapchat, Twitch and YouTube⁤ – have ⁢publicly committed ⁣to⁣ compliance, X ⁤(formerly Twitter)‌ and Reddit have yet to comment on their plans.

“Increasing the ⁣minimum ‍age ‌to have a social media‌ account is not a cure,it is a‌ treatment‍ plan. And ⁤this is not set⁣ and‌ forget. We can’t be static‌ in dynamic environments – as the tech⁣ sure ⁣isn’t,” Inman Grant stated to Senate estimates on Tuesday ⁣night.

The government identified ‍the ⁢ten⁣ platforms requiring implementation of the ban. The new ‍legislation is⁢ a‌ response to⁤ growing concerns about ⁣the negative‌ impacts of social media on young peopel’s⁤ mental health‍ and wellbeing, including ‌exposure to cyberbullying, harmful ⁣content, and privacy risks. The⁢ enforcement of this ban marks a significant step in Australia’s efforts to create a safer online surroundings for children.

Europe’s left takes heart from Mamdani win in New York : NPR

by Emma Walker – News Editor December 4, 2025

European Left ⁢Energized by New York Progressive’s⁢ Upset Victory

A surprising win by Rana Abdelhamid, a progressive‍ candidate, in a New ‍York congressional district is reverberating across Europe, offering a‌ potential blueprint for left-leaning parties grappling with rising far-right sentiment and electoral setbacks. Politicians in France, Germany, ‌and the United⁣ Kingdom are looking to emulate Abdelhamid’s grassroots campaign strategy, which focused on door-to-door engagement and addressing local concerns, as a‌ way to revitalize their own movements.

Abdelhamid’s victory, achieved against expectations in‌ a district previously held by a moderate Democrat,⁢ demonstrates ‍the potential for progressive candidates to connect with voters ⁣disillusioned by mainstream politics. This success comes at a critical juncture for Europe’s ‍left, as it⁢ faces challenges from both established conservative ⁣forces and increasingly popular far-right parties. The outcome could reshape the political landscape in several key European⁤ nations facing⁢ upcoming ⁣elections, offering a path to counter extremist ‍narratives and regain lost ground.

In france, Sandrine Lejeune is hoping to apply lessons from⁣ Abdelhamid’s campaign to ⁣upcoming local ‍and presidential elections.‌ “If we want to stop the far right from getting ‌into power in the next local elections then we’ve got to show the french ⁤people that we ‌don’t have to adopt the same kind of policies again and again that deteriorate ‌the quality of life for everyone,” she stated.

Across the Channel in Britain,‌ where⁣ the traditional dominance of Labor and the Conservatives is waning, the rise of parties like Reform U.K.and the Greens presents both ‍a challenge and an opportunity. ‍Leftist politician, Jan Polanski, believes the current political fluidity creates a chance ‍for a shift towards more ⁢progressive policies. “I can’t ⁢tell you whether we’re going to fall to the right and to ⁤fascism or whether we’re going‌ to go to the left, to a ⁣more progressive politics that cares about people and‍ planet. I’m obviously hoping it’s the latter, and I intend‌ to ‍do⁤ everything I can to make sure it’s the latter.”

Germany’s Left Party⁢ is also considering a similar strategy. “going from⁤ door to door, talking to people, explaining that we can change something for the better,” ⁣says Reichinnek, a member of the party, outlining their plans to emulate the Mamdani campaign in upcoming German elections.

Reichinnek‍ expressed optimism that Abdelhamid’s win proves⁤ that challenging powerful interests is absolutely⁤ possible, stating,”We can face the ⁣billionaires, the right-wing extremists‌ and win.”
