by Alex Carter - Sports Editor December 5, 2025
written by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

FC Bayern ‌Munich anticipates Alphonso Davies‘ return to competitive ⁤play ⁤as early as‍ December⁤ 14th, potentially marking the culmination of⁤ an eight-month recovery‍ from ‌a⁢ torn cruciate ligament. The Canadian international is currently unavailable for Saturday’s match against VfB Stuttgart, ⁢but ⁤coach Vincent ‍Kompany indicated a measured approach toward reintegrating the key left-back.

Davies’ prolonged absence has impacted Bayern’s defensive options, and ⁢his ⁣comeback⁤ represents a significant boost as the Bundesliga season progresses and the Champions League ‍knockout stage looms. Kompany, speaking‍ at⁣ a press conference on Friday, December 8th, outlined a cautious plan, prioritizing ⁢a full recovery over‍ a premature ⁢return. ⁤”davies is‌ very close, but ⁢not for tommorow. Hopefully next week. Things are⁣ looking ‍good,” Kompany stated.

The coaching staff is targeting the‍ December 14th⁤ fixture against 1. ‍FSV Mainz 05⁣ as a potential opportunity for Davies to see his first minutes of action.Though, Kompany stressed the importance of avoiding‌ needless risk. “We ⁢have ‍in mind that he might⁤ be able to ⁣get ‍his first minutes against Mainz for the first⁤ time. We would be very happy about that,” he⁤ said, ‌adding,⁢ “I would rather throw him in today or tomorrow, but we’ve⁤ waited ⁢so long, ⁢there’s no point in rushing it now.”

While a‍ return⁣ to the squad⁤ for the upcoming ⁣Champions League game against Sporting remains⁤ a possibility, Kompany suggested they are‌ prepared to delay his involvement further if necessary. “We can wait another week. We‍ can do that,” he confirmed, emphasizing the team’s commitment to a intentional‌ and ⁣safe rehabilitation process.
