KANSAS CITY,Kan. (KCTV) – A new immersive art experience, Atlas9, has opened its doors to the public, transforming a seemingly ordinary building into a “living” cinematic universe.
The narrative-driven venue emulates a 1990s movie theatre gone haywire, allowing visitors to step inside a film. Atlas9 features 35 uniquely designed rooms, each offering a different interactive experience. One room boasts interactive touch-panels that bring art to life, while another recreates a 1990s party scene with oversized props. Visitors can even interact with stacks of old movies and televisions that play music upon touch.
“Atlas9, in a few words, is an immersive art experience,” said Executive Creative Director Randall Statler. “So, it is a narrative-driven venue where you can walk in as a visitor and walk through a variety of rooms.”
Statler explained that visitors will feel as tho they are “walking through moments within those movies,” potentially becoming the hero or appearing on a movie poster.
The project is the result of a collaboration involving at least 250 artists. “Every detail matters and making sure each and every room and artistic kind of form of expression matches that overall narrative,” Statler said.
Atlas9 is designed to be an evolving space, with plans to host future events and showcase artwork from others. “We want to be able to kind of have that be a venue, not just a thing you go in and see,” Statler added, ”And it’s another thing you can participate in time or eventually have your work here.”
