YouTube remains the dominant social media platform in the United States, according to a Pew Research Center report released November 20, 2025. Although other platforms like Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, and Reddit are experiencing growth in adult usage, YouTube continues to lead in overall popularity.
The Pew Research Center survey, conducted between February 5 and June 18, 2025, polled 5,022 U.S. Adults using a multimode protocol including web, mail, and phone to ensure broad representation. A separate survey of 5,123 U.S. Adults, conducted February 24 to March 2, 2025, focused specifically on the frequency of use for YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter).
The findings indicate a shifting landscape in social media preferences, with increasing numbers of adults adopting newer platforms. However, YouTube’s established user base and diverse content offerings maintain its position at the top. The report details usage variations based on demographics such as age, gender, and race and ethnicity, though specific breakdowns were not immediately available.
TikTok, in particular, has gained traction, with a dedicated YouTube channel showcasing content from the platform. The channel features creators like Bo, who gained recognition for his “DadAdviceFromBo” videos, initially posted on TikTok. This cross-platform presence highlights the interconnectedness of social media trends.
The Pew Research Center’s American Trends Panel (ATP) was utilized for the second survey, providing a nationally representative sample recruited through random address sampling. Interviews were conducted online or by phone with live interviewers, and the data was weighted to reflect the U.S. Adult population across various demographic factors.
