ASU Downtown Closure: What Happened to Activity?

February 28, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Activity appeared to be suspended at Arizona State University’s Downtown Phoenix campus as of Friday, according to reports on a university-focused online forum. A post on the forum, which garnered 204 votes and 56 comments, stated that there was “no activity” visible at the campus during a visit, and no indication of preparations for upcoming events.

The Downtown Phoenix campus, established in 2006, currently enrolls 8,578 undergraduate students and 2,839 graduate and professional students, supported by a faculty of 1,507 members, according to university data. The campus offers a range of degree programs, including those in health solutions, law, journalism, and public service. It is situated within the city’s business and professional community, providing students with connections to various sectors, including healthcare, government, and the arts.

ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus is home to several colleges and schools, including the College of Health Solutions, the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. It as well houses the John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering, and will be the future site of the ASU Health headquarters, slated to open in fall 2028. The latest headquarters is intended to integrate medicine, technology, engineering, and humanities to drive innovation in health outcomes.

The university’s academic catalog confirms that all ASU academic programs are fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, a status maintained continuously since 1931. The catalog allows students to research majors and compare program requirements.

Travel times to the Downtown Phoenix campus from other ASU locations vary. From the Tempe campus, the journey takes approximately 18 minutes by car or 30 minutes via campus shuttle. From the Polytechnic campus, it requires about 41 minutes by car. The West Valley campus is approximately 14 miles away, with travel times not fully detailed in available information.

As of Saturday, February 28, 2026, ASU has not issued a public statement regarding the reported lack of activity at the Downtown Phoenix campus.
