Astrid Holleeder and Twan Huys‘s Awkward On-Air Pairing Addressed by TV Critic
The unusual pairing of crime witness Astrid Holleeder and talk show host Twan Huys on RTL Tonight has sparked discussion,given Huys’s previous controversial interview with Holleeder’s brother,Willem. TV critic Tina Nijkamp addressed the situation in her podcast, Tina’s TV Update, acknowledging it as “remarkable” and suggesting Huys may regret conducting the 2016 College Tour interview with Willem Holleeder.
Holleeder, who lived in hiding fearing her brother, now appears regularly on RTL tonight, a meaningful shift for the witness who previously avoided public attention. During a recent broadcast, host Ahmed Aboutaleb questioned Holleeder on whether her brother was aware of her newfound television presence, to which she responded, “I think so, yes. They just have television, isn’t it?” She clarified that Willem Holleeder does not experience complete isolation in prison, stating, ”That is the idea about the EBI, but we knew it wasn’t.”
The conversation took an emotional turn when host Renze Klamer asked if Holleeder feared her brother watching the show. Holleeder became visibly upset,stating,”I don’t want to talk about him badly…it remains my brother. I know: he is bad. I have to say it that way. He does and did bad things,but of course I know him as a child,” before requesting a different question and becoming tearful. Nijkamp believes the pairing was discussed in advance by RTL executives.
