Overview:
Amentum is seeking an Associate Scientist 1 to perform biological science work supporting the BioWatch Program. This role involves handling perhaps hazardous biological samples,performing laboratory assays,and ensuring quality control. A DHS Suitability security clearance is required.
Key Responsibilities:
* Sample handling: Receiving, processing, and analyzing samples potentially containing biological threat agents. This includes lifting (up to 60lbs), repetitive motions, and potentially working long hours.
* Laboratory Techniques: Performing microbiological and molecular techniques like DNA extraction and real-time PCR.
* Safety & Compliance: Working within various laboratory environments (BSL-2/BSL-3), using appropriate PPE (potentially including full respiratory and body protection), decontamination procedures, and adhering to GLP.
* Data Management: Maintaining chain-of-custody, data entry, and interpreting results.
* quality Control: Conducting QA/QC testing, archiving samples, and maintaining documentation.
* Logistics: Inventory management, equipment maintenance, and potentially supporting program logistics.
* Reporting: Preparing technical reports.
* Availability: Scheduled workdays include weekends and holidays,with 24/7/365 on-call availability in case of emergency.
Qualifications:
* Education: Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or related biological science.
* Experience: At least one (1) year of laboratory bench experience outside of an academic setting, specifically utilizing PCR, aseptic techniques, and biological assays.
* Desired: Biological Safety Level (BSL)-3 experience.
Physical Requirements:

* Extended periods of standing, walking, and PPE use.
