A workshop designed to support individuals with reading and visual impairments will be held on March 10, 2026, at the Gāliņciema Library in Ventspils, Latvia. Representatives from the Latvian Blind Society’s (LNB) Tiflotehnika department will lead the session, beginning at 1:00 PM at the library located at Kuldīgas iela 138.
The workshop will focus on tiflotehnika – assistive technologies that aid in reading, orientation and independent information access. Demonstrations will include practical devices designed to simplify daily life for those with visual impairments, such as a talking blood pressure monitor and a liquid level indicator for containers.
The Gāliņciema Library assumed the functions of the Ventspils Blind Library branch in 2023, expanding access to specialized resources for the visually impaired community. The library currently offers audiobooks, Braille books, books in simplified language, and large-print editions. Audiobooks are as well available remotely through the BALSS system.
Individuals interested in utilizing the library’s resources can register in person by presenting a valid identification document and completing a registration form. The event is open to all interested parties.
