Assisted & Home Voting in Lonato del Garda, Italy: Requirements & Deadlines

February 10, 2026 Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor Health

Residents of Lonato del Garda, Italy, who are physically unable to vote independently, can now apply for permanent assisted voting rights, according to a recent announcement from local election officials.

The process requires applicants to submit a medical certification, free of charge, from a designated physician at the local Azienda Sanitaria Locale (ASL). This certification must confirm the voter’s inability to cast a ballot without assistance. Upon approval, a special stamp will be affixed to the voter’s electoral card, eliminating the need for a medical certificate at each election. Accompaniment will be permitted by a trusted individual, who can be registered as an elector in any municipality within Italy.

voters who are severely ill or critically dependent on life-sustaining medical equipment can request to vote at home. Applications for this service must be submitted to the local mayor by March 2nd, 2026 – twenty days before the election date. The application requires a letter stating the voter’s intent to vote at home, including a complete address and contact number, a copy of the electoral card and identification document, and the aforementioned medical certification.

The medical certification for home voting must specifically attest to the conditions outlined in Article 1, paragraph 1 of Law No. 46/2009, with a prognosis of at least 60 days from the date of issuance, or a continuous and vital dependence on electromedical devices. The certification may also confirm the need for an accompanying person to assist with voting. Home voting is only available to those residing within the municipality where they are registered to vote.

Further information regarding these procedures is available at the local election office during public hours.
