Assem Marrey Sets KBL Single-Game Rebounding Record in LG Victory
Assem Marrey set a new Korean Basketball League (KBL) record by grabbing 34 rebounds in a single game on October 22, 2026. The performance led Changwon LG to an 88-83 victory over Hyundai Mobis at Ulsan Dongcheon Gymnasium. This result brings LG to a 3-4 record, while Hyundai Mobis falls to 2-5.
Marrey surpasses the previous single-game rebounding threshold
The 34-rebound total marks a new milestone in professional Korean basketball, eclipsing the previous league record of 31. That mark had been shared by Terrence Leter, who set the standard in 2011, and Chinanu Onuaku, who equaled it on March 24, 2024. According to reporting from Starnews Korea, Marrey’s performance included 25 points and 7 assists, cementing his role as the focal point of the LG offense throughout the contest. LG opened the scoring with a 3-pointer from Yoo Gi-sang, and after a first quarter that ended in a 24-24 tie, LG went into halftime with a 51-45 lead following successful free throws from Yoo and interior scoring from Marrey.
Hyundai Mobis struggles against LG interior dominance
Despite the historic rebounding display, the game remained competitive until the final minutes. Hyundai Mobis forward Darius Bazley recorded 34 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists, keeping his team within striking distance throughout the second half. Lee Woo-seok added 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and Seo Myung-jin contributed 10 points to the Hyundai Mobis effort. Gagee Prime also chipped in 9 points and 4 rebounds.
The game featured frequent lead changes. Hyundai Mobis utilized a perimeter-heavy attack to counter LG’s interior presence, eventually tying the score at 81-81 following consecutive shots from Seo Myung-jin. A dunk by Bazley gave Hyundai Mobis a brief 83-81 advantage, but the lead was short-lived.
Clutch execution in the final minutes
The closing sequence of the game hinged on defensive stops and free-throw accuracy. After Marrey leveled the score at 83-83 with a basket in the paint, a steal by Marrey led to a jumper by Yang Jun-seok, putting LG ahead for good. Following a critical defensive rebound by Marrey, Yoo Gi-sang converted two free throws to extend the lead. A final point from a free throw by Jung In-deok secured the 88-83 win for Changwon LG.
Yoo Gi-sang finished the game with 19 points, while Archie Goodwin provided 15 points for the winning side. Yang Jun-seok also supported the offense with 11 points and 2 assists.
