Ashley Allen confirms X-Orcists upgraded to ongoing series
Writer Ashley Allen has confirmed that the upcoming Marvel Comics series X-Orcists, originally slated as a five-issue limited run, has been upgraded to an ongoing series. The announcement was featured in the latest edition of X-Men Monday at AIPT.
Ongoing Series Format Expands Narrative Sandbox
Allen stated that the upgrade is a dream come true, attributing the change entirely to fan support before the series’ release. While the shift from a limited run to an ongoing series has not changed her writing process, Allen noted that it expands the narrative sandbox. She intentionally left various possibilities open in the initial outline so that she or other writers could explore them later, and the ongoing format now allows her to dive deeper into those plot threads. As a history and lore nerd, Allen also expressed excitement about exploring Limbo’s past further.
Origins of the Title and Character Dynamics
Discussing the development of the book, Allen revealed that the title came from editor Lindsey Cohick. The concept emerged from Allen’s previous work on Magik and Magik & Colossus, combined with her love for the mystical side of the Marvel Universe. After Cohick suggested the name, she and Darren Shan reached out to see if Allen had ideas for a book, leading to the current series.

Allen also highlighted the dynamic between Magik and Juggernaut, describing their ride-or-die friendship as her favorite part of writing them. Regarding Juggernaut’s association with the magical side of Marvel, Allen confirmed that the team-up will explore different branches and aspects of arcana, promising to give Juggernaut his own spotlight.
