Ashford Castle Manager Warns Over Ryder Cup Helicopter Bookings
Ashford Castle general manager Niall Rochford warned on Friday that securing helicopter transport for the Ryder Cup at Adare Manor is a major concern because if it is not booked now, it will not be gotten. The warning coincides with newly filed Companies Office accounts revealing that the Co Mayo luxury resort tripled its pre-tax profit to €3.93 million last year amid record revenues.
Financial Growth and Record-Breaking Revenue Streams
The Co Mayo luxury property experienced a 9 percent revenue increase, climbing from €32 million to a record €34.9 million last year, according to accounts filed for Ashford Castle Ltd. Operating profit reached €5 million, while earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation grew by €1.36 million to €7.9 million. Finance costs of €1.12 million ultimately brought the pre-tax profit to €3.93 million.
Staff expansion matched the financial momentum. Employee counts at the resort rose from 327 to 353 over the period, pushing total staff costs from €11.4 million to €12.29 million. Concurrently, cash funds strengthened significantly, jumping from €3.97 million to €15.49 million.
The Logistics Bottleneck Around the 2027 Ryder Cup
Rochford highlighted the scramble for aviation assets as a pressing commercial challenge for high-net-worth travellers. “The big issue and big concern at the moment is trying to secure helicopters or general transport because I think if you don’t have that booked now, you are not going to get it,” Rochford noted.
Online rates for the 83-room property reflect the intense demand, ranging upwards to €7,615 per night for the Presidential Suite during peak periods.
Exclusive Buyouts and American Tourism Inflows
Beyond major sporting fixtures, Ashford Castle has captured a lucrative segment of the luxury travel market through full-property takeovers. Weddings, milestone birthdays, and private corporate events have driven a notable surge in exclusive bookings spanning multiple days.

International visitors continue to anchor this revenue growth. The majority of patrons hail from the United States, alongside strong representation from Irish and UK markets. Rochford emphasized that the resort has also gained substantial commercial value from the American football games hosted in Dublin in recent years, which have consistently channeled high-spending tourists.
