AS Monaco Squad Update: Diatta Excluded from Champions League

by David Harrison – Chief Editor
Krépin Diatta

Monaco‘s Krépin Diatta‌ has been removed from the ⁤club’s Champions⁣ League squad for‍ a second‌ time this season, creating a challenge for new head ⁤coach Sébastien ⁣Pocognoli.

The change ⁣stems from⁢ UEFA regulations allowing teams to replace injured players on their Champions League lists. In September, Diatta initially replaced ‌Denis Zakaria, who was expected to be sidelined ⁢for at least ‍60⁤ days.⁤ With Zakaria⁢ now recovered after ⁣a two-month absence, he has reclaimed his spot, leading to Diatta’s exclusion.

This presents a setback ⁤for Pocognoli, who has emphasized Diatta’s importance to his plans. “Krépin is a very⁤ important player for me, for⁤ my system. He’s ⁣one of the guys who’s definitely⁣ been performing⁣ at a very high level since I⁣ arrived,⁢ but that’s how ⁢it is. The decision was made‌ before I got here,so ⁤we adapt,” Pocognoli stated. The coach⁤ clarified he was ⁤not involved‌ in‌ the original squad list compilation.
