Artesp: Over 19 Million Vehicles Expected on SP Highways This Holiday
More than 19 million vehicles are expected to travel across São Paulo’s toll roads during the upcoming extended All Souls’ Day holiday, according to projections released on October 28, 2026, by Artesp. Concessionaires will operate at full capacity throughout the period, facing heavy demand alongside new regional route transfers and operational adjustments across major commuter corridors.
Expected Traffic Volumes Across Major Corridors
The total projected volume reaches 19,1 million vehicles across the state’s concession-held highways. Traffic distribution varies sharply by corridor, with the Anhanguera-Bandeirantes system leading expected volumes at 2,84 million vehicles. Other heavily impacted stretches include Motiva Sorocabana at 1,8 million vehicles, Novo Litoral at 1,4 million, Raposo Castello at 1,3 million, the Rodoanel Oeste at 1,2 million, the Ayrton Senna-Carvalho Pinto corridor at 1,2 million, and Eixo SP at 1,1 million. To manage the surge, routine conservation roadworks and exceptional cargo circulation will face restrictions during peak movement periods, though emergency interventions remain authorized by Artesp.
New Rota Mogiana Concession Transfer
Artesp and the participating operators established a joint planning framework to ensure uninterrupted toll, security, and user assistance services for drivers using the newly integrated sectors during the holiday rush.
Operational Measures on Coastal and Mountain Routes
Specific regional adjustments target historically congested corridors. On the Anchieta-Imigrantes System, operators scheduled potential lane reversal configurations such as 7×3 and 2×8 setups depending on real-time traffic demand. The Tamoios Highway will maintain a split configuration featuring two lanes for descent and two for ascent, while specific measures are prepared for designated stretches of highways SP-055 and SP-098. Operational fleets including tow trucks, ambulances, inspection units, and animal capture vehicles remain stationed across the network. Meanwhile, User Assistance Posts and Truck Driver Rest Areas stay open with basic sanitary facilities and drinking water.
Rail and Bus Systems Adopt Holiday Timetables
Public transportation systems across the metropolitan region will adopt modified holiday timetables. Privately administered rail lines—including Line 4-Yellow, Line 5-Lilás, Line 7-Rubi, Line 8-Diamante, Line 9-Esmeralda, and Line 13-Jade—will operate normally on Saturday and Sunday, shifting to Sunday-equivalent intervals on Monday for All Souls’ Day. Operators confirmed readiness to introduce reserve trains if passenger demand spikes. The Airport Express service will maintain hourly departures in both directions connecting to São Paulo International Airport in Guarulhos. Maintenance work is scheduled on Line 8-Diamante between Júlio Prestes and Palmeiras-Barra Funda stations from Saturday’s start of operations through Sunday. Regional bus services face high demand, prompting transportation authorities to advise passengers to purchase tickets in advance and arrive early at terminals.
