Paris, France - November 21, 2024 – Filmmakers worldwide are invited to submit short films to the 2025 Artefact AI Film Festival, a competition celebrating the creative potential of artificial intelligence in cinema. The festival, building on the success of its 2024 launch which drew 267 films from 35 countries, is now accepting entries under the theme (Dis)play, encouraging playful experimentation wiht generative AI tools.
The competition is free and open to all, with a submission deadline of December 3, 2025. Films must not exceed 314 seconds - a nod to the mathematical constant pi – and require the use of at least one generative AI tool during writing, production, and post-production. A detailed logbook documenting AI tool usage is mandatory for openness.
Four prizes will be awarded: a Grand Prix of €10,000,a jury prize,a public prize,and an “Best Use of AI” artifact prize offering support for a future film project.
The 2025 jury includes creators Deux Moi and What binds us, director Anna APTER, Emmy Award-winning director Paul Trillo, pioneers Junie Lau and Raphaël Frydman (currently preparing a feature film produced by MK2), Bruno Patino (president of Arte and author of Civilization of the red fish), and Elisha Karmitz (managing director of MK2), who stated, “AI becomes a relevant tool when it is put at the service of storytelling.”
The Artefact AI Film Festival aims to be a laboratory for exploring how artists can leverage AI to invent new aesthetics and storytelling possibilities.
