Arizona Fall League Home Run Derby: Eight Sluggers Set to Compete at Salt River Field
The Arizona Fall League Home Run Derby opens at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick with eight sluggers competing in a single-elimination bracket, mlb.com reported. Last year’s event featured a jaw-dropping performance by Tony Blanco Jr., who hit a ball 122.9 mph. This year’s field arrived with different expectations, led by players who surged through the 2026 minor league season before taking their cuts in the desert.
Seeding for the bracket was determined by home runs hit in Fall League competition through Friday. The preliminary round gives each hitter one minute and thirty seconds, with nine outs per match in subsequent rounds and one-swing-offs for ties, according to worldbaseball.com. The first-round matchups pit Jack O’Dowd against Yerlin Confidan, Alex McCoy against Aaron Parker, Brooks Bryan against Antonio Anderson, and Tai Peete against Eric Bitonti.
Power Hitters Showcase Breakout Regular Season Statistics
The eight participants enter the tournament carrying breakout power numbers from the regular season. Eric Bitonti of the Milwaukee Brewers organization set a career high with 25 home runs this year at High-A Wisconsin, bringing 60 total minor league home runs over three seasons into his appearance for Scottsdale. Antonio Anderson of the Mesa Solar Sox hit nine homers with an .826 OPS for High-A Greenville, adding three more in Phoenix alongside a 115.2 mph homer on Oct. 27 that ranked as the third-highest exit velocity in the Fall League.
Brooks Bryan of the Surprise Saguaros launched 33 home runs over three college seasons and hit four long balls in just 10 games in the desert, averaging a 96.3 mph exit velocity. Yerlin Confidan of the Peoria Javelinas hit 15 home runs between High-A Dayton and Double-A Chattanooga, leading the Fall League with a 98.5 mph average exit velocity that peaked at 116.7 mph. Aaron Parker of the Mesa Solar Sox slugged a career-best 19 home runs this season, highlighted by a 451-foot blast in Fall League play.
Alex McCoy of the Peoria Javelinas hit 19 home runs this year and owns the hardest-hit ball of the Fall League season at 118.2 mph on a 435-foot shot. Jack O’Dowd of the Salt River Rafters swatted 23 home runs across three levels of the Colorado Rockies organization after playing independent ball in 2025. Tai Peete of the Peoria Javelinas hit 13 home runs this season and enters the derby despite league trends, as worldbaseball.com noted that leadoff hitters almost never participate in the event.

The single-elimination tournament moves from the preliminary round into head-to-head matches where the O’Dowd-Confidan winner faces the Peete-Bitonti winner, and the McCoy-Parker winner meets the Bryan-Anderson victor. The derby precedes the 20th annual Fall Stars Game scheduled for Sunday at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, which will air live on MLB Network with Paul Severino, Dan O’Dowd, and Jim Callis on the call.
While the bracket sets up the contest in Arizona, the broader impact extends across the participating major league organizations evaluating their prospect depth.
