Argentine Soccer Matches Threatened by Severe Weather
BUENOS AIRES – Sunday’s highly anticipated Argentine Primera División matches featuring Boca Juniors,River Plate, and Racing Club are forecast to be played amidst notable rainfall and potential storms, according to the National meteorological Service (SMN). The inclement weather extends beyond Buenos Aires, with eleven provinces across Argentina currently under alert for rain, storms, or cold temperatures.
The SMN predicts isolated rains will begin in the morning, escalating to storms by noon, and intensifying into heavy rainfall throughout the afternoon and evening - conditions expected to persist into Monday. This directly impacts the scheduled matches: River Plate versus Belgrano, Racing Club versus Defensa y Justicia, and Boca Juniors versus an unnamed opponent. Fans attending these games are advised to prepare with appropriate clothing and waterproof gear.
Further matches scheduled for Monday, including Gimnasia La Plata versus Atlético Tucumán (5:00 PM) and Platense versus Godoy Cruz (7:15 PM),are also expected to be affected by continued rainfall, though the SMN suggests conditions may improve by noon.
The Professional soccer League has already postponed the match between Sarmiento and Rosario Central, citing the adverse climatic conditions, with a rescheduled date to be announced.
Currently, Córdoba (Southwest) and San Luis (Central and North) are under orange alert for storms, while southern La Rioja, Catamarca, most of Córdoba, central and southern Santa Fe, and northwestern Buenos Aires are under yellow alert.
