Araceli Aramburu and Misiones Women’s Rugby Head to Evita Games
Misiones women’s rugby is heading to Mar del Plata for the National Evita Games with a pre-juvenile squad, following a weekend of competition and grassroots consolidation at the CAPRI club facilities in Posadas, misionesonline.net reported on March 18, 2024.
Building the Roster on and Off the Pitch
The recent tournament at CAPRI brought together senior and youth divisions while incorporating activities for breast cancer awareness month. Araceli Aramburu managed a dual role during the competitive weekend, playing for the club’s senior team while coaching the youth squad.
The youth side secured a victory against Guaraní Antonio Franco and contested the category final against Carayá de Eldorado. Reflecting on the growth of the sport, Aramburu noted an increasing level of competition across provincial tournaments.
“The truth is, it’s growing a lot. Each tournament we have gets better and better, each experience we have, so it’s a real pleasure to see all the players develop, and the youth program is fantastic.”
The Road to Mar del Plata
The competitive schedule continues immediately as the pre-juvenile squad travels to the coastal city for the national tournament. Aramburu will accompany the delegation as part of the provincial representative structure.
She stated that “We’re going to the Evita Games, that’s with the pre-youth teams and it’s already like a national team” and “We have a very good team” regarding the upcoming matches.
Provincial Development Structures
The pathway for developing talent relies on coordinated efforts across municipalities. The M17 representative team from the Unión de Rugby de Misiones recently completed a competitive run featuring narrow results against squads from Paraguay and Santiago del Estero.
“Our great work here in women’s sports is being done by Romina Cadena, who is the one who really paved the way for bringing the players together and making contact with most of the coaches in the province,” she explained.
Aramburu’s own involvement spans back to international collegiate competition at the 2019 Naples Universiade. Five years following that experience, she trains upcoming generations at the floodlit facilities in Villa Cabello.
“It was a wonderful experience, truly beautiful. And honestly, it feels like it was just yesterday, the memories are so lovely,” she recalled.
