Williamsport, PA – August 5, 2025 – Lycoming County Commissioners today approved a matching grant of $250,000 for the extension of the Susquehanna RiverWalk trail, a key component of the county’s ongoing efforts to enhance recreational opportunities and connect communities along the Susquehanna river.
The funding will be matched by a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), bringing the total project budget for this phase to $500,000. The extension will add approximately 1.2 miles to the existing RiverWalk, stretching it from its current endpoint near the Market Street Bridge westward towards the Lycoming County Historical Society building at 858 washington Blvd.
commissioner Marc Sortino, who championed the project, stated the extension is vital for promoting both tourism and resident wellness. “The RiverWalk is already a popular destination, and this expansion will make it even more accessible and enjoyable for everyone,” Sortino said during Tuesday’s commissioners meeting. Construction is slated to begin in Spring 2026,with completion anticipated by late Fall 2026.the project will be overseen by the Lycoming County Department of transportation, with assistance from local engineering firm, Larson Design Group.
