Apple: WWDC, iOS 26.4 & AirPods Max 2 – What to Expect This Week
Apple is preparing to unveil details regarding its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026, likely this week, setting the stage for the debut of iOS 27 and other software updates. The announcement comes amid a flurry of recent product launches and software updates from the tech giant.
The company recently released iOS 26.4 Release Candidate on Wednesday, bringing with it 13 enhancements for iPhone users. The final version of iOS 26.4 is anticipated to arrive on Wednesday, March 25th, according to reports. The update cycle extends to other Apple platforms, including iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, visionOS, and watchOS.
Among the improvements, eight recent emoji characters will be added across all platforms. Mac users will see the return of compact tabs in Safari, while Apple TV gains a Continuous Audio Connection setting and a Genius Browse feature. VisionOS will support the latest Nvidia CloudXR technology, enhancing gameplay experiences. Apple Watch users will benefit from a redesigned Workout app interface.
Apple is also prioritizing security, urging users on older iOS versions – specifically iOS 13 and iOS 14 – to update to iOS 15 to receive critical security protections. A further alert will be issued in the coming days prompting installation of a Critical Security Update, according to Apple.
Pre-orders for the newly announced AirPods Max 2 are scheduled to begin this Wednesday, March 25th. Apple anticipates that orders will ship in early April. Current AirPods Max models with a USB-C port are available at a $100 discount, though they lack the new software features included in the AirPods Max 2.
Looking ahead, Apple may introduce the first beta of iOS 26.5 as early as March 30th. This update is expected to include initial features powered by Gemini and Apple Intelligence, though the company reportedly plans to reserve some Gemini-powered functionality for iOS 27.
