Apple Unveils MacBook Pro with Touchscreen and PROLED XDR Display
Apple brought touchscreen functionality to the Mac lineup for the first time on October 28, 2026, pairing it with the new ProLED XDR display in MacBook Pro models powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. The company showcased the hardware at an event in the United States, as reported by UOL. UOL was the only Brazilian journalism outlet invited to the event, which gathered content creators from YouTube, Instagram and TikTok alongside artists and creative professionals.
The notebooks come in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes and use dual-layer OLED technology. Apple says the architecture delivers up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness for HDR and SDR content, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and a 120 Hz variable refresh rate. The display also supports a wider P3 and Adobe RGB color gamut for vivid color reproduction. Touch input lets users manipulate 3D models directly on screen or play software-based instruments, changing how professionals work in macOS.
Creative Professionals Put the Touchscreen to Work
Content creators, artists, and designers gathered at the event, including Brazilian singer Vanessa Lopes and trap artist Veigh. Demonstrations showed iPhones syncing with MacBook Pros for real-time audiovisual production. Fashion designer Susan Fang and designer Orelio de Jonghe used the machines to develop 3D-printed clothing and accessories.
UOL staff joined a nearly 30-minute hands-on workshop led by Apple specialists to test video editing on the new MacBook Pro. The session highlighted how the touch interface and M5 chip processing perform in high-demand creative workflows.

M5 Pro and M5 Max: Up to 128 GB Memory, 24-Hour Battery
The lineup supports up to 128 GB of unified memory and 16 TB of storage. Apple rates battery life at up to 24 hours, with the chassis weighing 1.5 kg and 2 kg across the two sizes. The thinner, lighter designs make the MacBook Pro more portable than ever, allowing professionals to take their work wherever inspiration strikes. Hardware updates include a 12 MP Center Stage camera, a six-speaker sound system, and Thunderbolt 5 ports. The enhanced sound system delivers bass 50% deeper and impressive clarity for a more immersive audio experience, while studio-quality microphones capture sound with professional precision.
The machines run macOS 27, which adds Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features. A Dynamic Island now sits in the Mac interface, consolidating Spotlight, Live Activities, and Siri AI.
