Apple Foldable iPhone: Leaks & Rumors of First Flexible Device

February 15, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

Apple is preparing to launch its first foldable iPhone in September 2026, positioning the device as part of the iPhone 18 lineup, according to multiple reports from industry analysts and supply chain sources.

The forthcoming device represents a significant shift for Apple, which has been evaluating foldable technology for over a decade. Initial testing encompassed both clamshell and book-like designs, but recent indications point towards a horizontal folding “book” style similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series. This design will feature an external display for apply when the device is closed, and a larger internal display when unfolded.

Analysts anticipate the iPhone Fold will utilize a titanium alloy casing, with a hinge constructed from stainless steel, titanium, and liquid metal components. Jeff Pu, an analyst, believes the frame will incorporate both titanium and aluminum, leveraging titanium for structural integrity and aluminum for heat dissipation. The device is expected to include a dual-lens rear camera system and a single front-facing camera.

A notable potential change from current iPhone models is the possible removal of Face ID in favor of a Touch ID side button. Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, suggests this alteration could maximize internal space and contribute to a thinner device profile. This would mark a reversal of Apple’s recent decision to eliminate Touch ID with the iPhone 16e.

Pricing is expected to be premium, with estimates ranging from $2,000 to $2,500, and some projections reaching as high as $2,399. Despite the anticipated high cost, market analysts predict strong demand for the device. Samsung Display is reportedly supplying the OLED displays for the iPhone Fold, leveraging their established expertise in flexible display technology.

While a fall 2026 launch is the current expectation, some reports caution that manufacturing or durability challenges, particularly related to the hinge or display, could delay the release to 2027. Apple has a history of postponing product launches to ensure they meet the company’s quality standards.
