Apple AI Glasses, Pendant & AirPods: New Wearable Tech & Stock Surge

by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Apple is accelerating development of a trio of artificial intelligence-powered wearable devices, including smart glasses codenamed N50, an AI pendant and AirPods with enhanced AI capabilities, according to reports from Bloomberg and multiple Korean news outlets. The move signals a significant push by the tech giant to compete with rivals like Meta and Snap in the emerging AI wearable market.

The smart glasses, described as “more upscale and feature-rich” than the other devices, are slated to begin production as early as December 2026, with a potential public release in 2027. These glasses will incorporate a high-resolution camera for capturing photos and videos, and a second camera dedicated to computer vision, enabling the device to understand its surrounding environment. Prototypes currently connect to a standalone battery pack and iPhone, though newer versions are integrating these components directly into the frame. Apple is designing the glasses in-house, utilizing high-conclude materials like acrylic for a premium feel and exploring various styles for future releases.

Alongside the glasses, Apple is developing an AI pendant, roughly the size of an AirTag, designed to be clipped onto clothing. This device features a camera capable of analyzing the user’s field of vision in real-time. The development of both the pendant and the glasses is being driven by a require to maximize the utility of Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant, and to reduce reliance on the iPhone.

The third component of Apple’s AI wearable push involves upgrading the AirPods with modern AI functionalities. Details regarding the specific AI capabilities of the AirPods remain limited. However, all three devices are intended to seamlessly integrate with the iPhone, leveraging Siri as a central component of the user experience.

Apple’s accelerated development timeline comes as competitors, notably Meta, have gained traction in the smart glasses market. Snap is as well planning to release its “Specs” later this year. The company is reportedly responding to pressure to establish its own independent ecosystem and defend its market position. The surge in development activity has coincided with a 3.17% increase in Apple’s stock price, and a 3% overall gain, following reports of the AI initiatives.

Bloomberg reported that Apple is aiming for the glasses to function as an “all-day AI companion,” capable of understanding a user’s activities and surroundings in real time. The computer vision capabilities could potentially mirror features currently available on the iPhone, such as Visual Intelligence, and enhance functionality within Apple Maps and Reminders.
