App State Volleyball hosts Coastal Carolina for its Sun Belt Conference home opening series at the Holmes Convocation Center on Friday and Saturday, featuring promotional events including “Volley for Dolly” and “Community Day,” according to App State Athletics.
Mountaineers Enter Home Opener After Sweep at Old Dominion
The Mountaineers enter the weekend with a 9-7 overall record and a 2-0 mark in conference play. App State secured a road series sweep against Old Dominion in its conference opening matches, holding the Monarchs to 82 total points across seven sets while scoring 138 points of its own. In the opening match, Bella Hutchens recorded 17 kills with a .452 hitting percentage, while Raegan Richardson tallied 42 assists and three blocks. Chelsea Gilmore anchored the defense with nine blocks and eight kills. During the second match, Delanie Grevengoed led the squad with nine kills on a .444 hitting percentage, three service aces, and four blocks, while Charlotte Thompson added 13 kills hitting .391.
On the opening play of Friday’s match against Old Dominion, Richardson reached the 2,000-assist career milestone. App State Athletics reports that she will receive recognition for this achievement prior to Friday’s opening match against Coastal Carolina.
Coastal Carolina Holds Historical Lead over App State
Coastal Carolina arrives in Boone holding a 21-8 advantage in the 29 all-time meetings between the two programs. The Chanticleers stand at 4-7 overall and 0-2 in the Sun Belt after dropping their opening conference matches. App State swept the previous home series in October 2024, while Coastal Carolina secured the series win in Conway, South Carolina, during the 2025 season despite the Mountaineers forcing a fifth set in their second meeting.
All-Sun Belt middle blocker Anna Rita anchors the Coastal Carolina front line after ranking fourth in the conference last season with 143 total blocks, including 30 solo blocks and a 1.39 blocks-per-set average.
Promotions and Upcoming Schedule at Holmes Convocation Center
Friday night’s match features the “Volley for Dolly” promotion, followed by “Community Day” events during Saturday’s contest at the Holmes Convocation Center. Following the weekend series, the Mountaineers remain at home to host Georgia Southern on October 8 and October 9 to open Homecoming weekend. Both matches against Georgia Southern will air live on ESPN+ with live statistics hosted on the official athletic department website.
