App State Produces 4 Champs, 10 Finalists at Mountaineer Open

App State wrestling delivered ​a dominant performance at the Mountaineer Open on November 24, 2023, crowning four champions adn‍ reaching ⁢ten‍ finalists overall. The team’s⁢ success signals a strong start to​ the season and underscores ‌the program’s rising competitiveness within the Southern Conference‌ and beyond.

The Mountaineer‍ Open, held in Boone, North Carolina, attracts wrestlers from​ across ‍the region, providing⁣ a crucial⁣ early-season test for App ⁣State. This year’s results demonstrate the depth and talent within the ⁣App State wrestling ⁤roster, ‌positioning several individuals as contenders for conference⁤ titles and NCAA qualification. The tournament’s outcome builds momentum as the team prepares for a challenging schedule‍ throughout the remainder of the 2023-24 season.

Wrestlers securing individual titles for App State included Hayden Haynes, who competed unattached, along with teammates Ethan Gardner, Caleb Henson, and‍ Tommy Askey. Henson defeated ‍Jacob Levy of North Carolina 9-6 (SV) and Morvens Saint-Jean of Presbyterian twice, ‌once with a⁢ 14-2 major decision and later ‍by fall.​ Askey ⁢recorded a fall over Daniel Karmanov of UNCP in 3:59. Gardner secured a win over Wyatt ‌Schmitt of ‌Ohio‌ with ‌a technical fall, 15-0.

Additional App ⁤State wrestlers reaching⁤ the finals included Will Miller,who went 14-2,and​ Dec,who ⁣secured wins over Morvens Saint-Jean of‍ Presbyterian and Jacob Levy of North Carolina.
