Andhra Pradesh Colleges to offer Quantum Technologies and AI Minors Starting 2025

In a move to prepare students for the future of technology, Andhra Pradesh will introduce minor programs in quantum Technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in both engineering and conventional degree colleges starting in the academic year 2025-26. The decision follows a meeting on Sunday, June 22, 2025, of an expert committee formed by the Andhra Pradesh State Council of higher education (APSCHE).

Curriculum Development and Alignment

The expert committee, led by APSCHE Chairman K. Madhu Murthy, is tasked with designing a robust curriculum framework for Quantum Computing, Quantum Technologies, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This framework aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and guidelines from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).The committee’s discussions centered on curriculum design, capacity-building, the development of a Quantum Lab, and fostering research, innovation, and start-ups.

Following extensive discussions, the committee decided to introduce the following minor degree programs:

  • Minor Degree in Artificial Intelligence (Engineering and General streams): 18 credits
  • Minor Degree in Quantum Technologies (General degree stream): 16 credit points

These programs aim to provide students with foundational knowledge and skills in these cutting-edge fields.

Faculty Development and Training

To support the implementation of these new programs, Faculty Development programmes (FDPs) will be conducted for 500 faculty members in physics, electronics, mathematics, and computer science disciplines. This training will ensure that educators are well-equipped to teach the complexities of quantum technologies and AI.
