Anthony Joshua in Talks for December Fight with Jake Paul
Miami,FL - Former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony joshua is reportedly nearing an agreement to fight Jake Paul,a former YouTuber turned professional boxer,in Miami this December. The potential bout would mark Joshua’s return to the ring after a fifth-round stoppage defeat to Daniel dubois last September, ending a four-fight winning streak following back-to-back losses against Oleksandr Usyk.
The fight represents a potential “tune-up” for joshua as he considers his path back towards another world title tilt, though promoter Eddie Hearn has acknowledged the bout is not financially driven. Hearn stated on monday, “We will make a decision this week in terms of if he will fight this year. We have to decide by this weekend basically.”
Paul, who previously competed against Tyson Fury’s brother Tommy (losing in 2023) and recently secured a win against boxing legend Mike Tyson in an eight-round contest last year, had a scheduled exhibition fight with Gervonta Davis cancelled due to a civil lawsuit against the WBA lightweight champion.
Hearn further explained the unusual circumstances surrounding the potential fight, saying,”I think it would be so good for him but bizarre simultaneously occurring as there’s no money in the fight. We’re not going to start using him to sell tickets. Literally he will just pop up on a show.” He added, “He’s really up for it. I’d love him to go in there and just smash someone up.”
