The Indonesian government has destroyed 7,363 bundles of illegally imported second-hand clothes worth IDR 80bn ($5.3m) at an event in West Java attended by Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan and Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Teten Masduki. The destruction of the items, which were imported from neighbouring countries, was part of the government’s efforts to protect micro, small and medium enterprises, whose businesses are threatened by illegal imports. Such items have been confiscated for years, and are typically imported from Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand. The government has previously destroyed such items in Pekanbaru, East Java.
Antara News reports Ministries’ disposal of illegally imported used clothing worth Rp80 billion.
