Sudden Cardiac Deaths Rise Among Young Adults, Experts Warn

Madurai, India – A concerning trend of increased sudden cardiac deaths and heart failure among individuals aged 30 to 40 has been highlighted by cardiology experts. This alarming rise,a stark contrast to previous decades,is prompting urgent calls for greater awareness and proactive health management,particularly for those facing high-stress professions.

The Department of Cardiology,Electrophysiology and Pacing at Meenakshi Super Specialty Hospital (MSSH) recently hosted the 4th Annual Arrhythmia and Heart Failure Conclave in Madurai. During the event, Dr. S. Gurushankar, Chairman of Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Center, Madurai, expressed his deep concern over the escalating numbers of sudden cardiac deaths and heart failures in younger demographics.

Dr. Gurushankar emphasized that this surge is a significant wake-up call, especially for professionals experiencing extreme stress and high work pressure. He noted that such occurrences were rare in this age group in past decades, making the current situation particularly worrying.

P. Jayapandian, Senior Interventional Cardiologist and Lead in Electrophysiology, further elaborated on the critical role of arrhythmia and heart failure in overall cardiac disease. He stated that arrhythmic causes of sudden cardiac death are major contributors to the mortality rate associated with heart disease. Jayapandian also pointed out that public awareness regarding arrhythmia and heart failure lags significantly behind that of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD).
