Mexico city Hosts “Animal Welfare Economy” Event
Mexico City is recognizing the growing economic impact of pet care with the ”Animal Welfare Economy” event, held September 27th and 28th at the Park of La Bombilla. Organized by the Ministry of Economic Development (SEDECO), the Animal Care Agency (Agatan), and the Mayor’s Office Álvaro Obregón, the event features over 75 local businesses and ventures.
The initiative, championed by Chief of Government Clara Brugada Molina, aims to integrate animal welfare into the city’s economic and social development. Ricardo Santana, General Director of Economic Development at SEDECO, highlighted the diverse range of services within the animal care industry – including veterinary care, food, grooming, training, accessories, pet hotels, and even bakeries – as a meaningful prospect for job creation and sustainable entrepreneurship.
With 57% of Mexican households owning at least one pet (over 19 million dogs and 3 million cats), the sector represents a tangible economic force. Ana Villagrán, head of the Animal Attention Agency, emphasized how this event connects businesses, rescuers, foundations, and citizens in building a more compassionate and prosperous city.
Representatives from the Álvaro Obregón mayor’s office reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that link social, economic, and animal well-being.Citizens are invited to attend with their families and furry companions from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to explore the offerings and support local businesses. This event underscores Mexico city’s dedication to shared well-being, sustainable development, and a city that prioritizes care and prosperity for all.
